Julie McAllister

Listen to Julie on the second and fourth Monday of every month, during “Motivational Mondays” at 1:00pm (EST)

Julie McAllister - Special Moms, Special Healing – Supporting and Empowering the Special Needs Mom

I am happily married and the mother of two boys with special needs.  My oldest was diagnosed with Asperger’s Syndrome (an Autism Spectrum Disorder) at age 5 1/2 and the youngest developed multiple food protein intolerances shortly after birth.

One day, early in 2010, my Higher Power told me that it was time for me to use what I had learned to start helping other mothers of special-needs children and children with disabilities.  And so began Special Moms, Special Healing.  I started looking around online and for other resource material that targeted mothers of special needs children and there was not much, if anything, available.  With the rise in the number of special needs children especially in certain diagnoses (Autism Spectrum Disorders, ADHD and ADD, etc.), someone needs to focus on the needs of the mother.  And because I am one of those mothers myself, I felt I was qualified.

I feel that in order to be the best possible parent, mothers have to be healthy too.  That can definitely be a struggle when you’re focusing so much time on your children.  I will give you tips and other resources on how YOU can be healthy, so that you feel great.  When YOU feel great, that positive energy will translate to everyone you interact with, especially your children.  Special Moms, Special Healing is your one-stop resource for taking care of yourself in body, mind and spirit.

Stephani McGirr   Listen to Stephani the third Wednesday of every month at 2:30pm (EST)

Stephani McGirr, The Nourishing Journey
Life Coach

I have spent nine years researching and implementing the use of holistic nutrition and behavioral therapy to help children struggling with autism spectrum disorders, ADD/ADHD and SPD (as well as the many other labels children get these days!) My educational and professional backgrounds, in addition to my personal experience, enable me to help families look beyond the disability to bring out their child’s full potential naturally.

When my oldest child was diagnosed as gifted with problems in the autism spectrum, sensory processing disorder (SPD), ODD and ADHD, I sought solutions. With a B.S. in Biology, specifically Human Anatomy and Physiology, I keenly understand the body. I even worked as a surgical assistant during my university studies. So my interest in natural and alternative approaches is firmly grounded in knowledge of traditional medicine.

I am also an expert in child development and learning. I minored in child psychology in college, pursuing teacher training in my final year. I created, developed and taught courses in Biology, Physics and Chemistry for an Upward Bound university level summer program for high school students.

Author of the “Nourishing Journal, Making Dietary Changes for Your ADHD or ASD Child” Ezine and the report “Healing Special Needs the Natural Way.”
